Conservative Therapy for Cervical Disk Disease:
- Includes NSAIDs, opiates, steroid injections, physical therapy, and cervical traction.
- Up to 95% of patients with acute cervical radiculopathy may recover with these measures.
- If no improvement occurs in 6 weeks, an operation is warranted depending of the degree of pain.
- Objective weakness or pain refractory to conservative measures are typically reasonable causes of early surgery.
