Case Presentation: Spinal Meningioma - Case 2

History and Physical

  • 60+ year old lady with new onset of pain in the left buttock a year before presentation. She described this as an ache with burning and numbness which was bothering her mostly in the evenings. Patient would wake up due to pain.
  • On examination she had no focal neurological deficit.

  • MRI scan of patient’s lumbar spine shows a large intradural extramedullary tumor at L1 and L2 level compressing the spinal nerve roots.




Surgical Procedure

She underwent L1 and L2 laminectomy with surgical resection of this tumor using computer navigation, stereotaxy, and intra-operative neurophysiological monitoring.

  • H&E Stain The pathology of the tumor revealed angiomatoid meningioma.

  • Patient did well post operatively and was discharged home. Her nightly pain resolved post-operatively.
